Starting solids means giving your baby foods and drinks in addition to breast milk or formula. The goal is not to replace milk right away. Solids help meet your baby’s growing nutrition needs from around 6 months, support skills like swallowing and chewing, and help your baby gradually move toward family meals.
Why start solids?
- To add key nutrients, especially iron, zinc, and extra energy
- To build eating skills, such as swallowing, chewing, and handling different textures
- To support the transition to family food and regular meals later on
